Madeline “Maggie” Munroe, age 94, of Whispering Pines, passed peacefully in her home, overlooking her beloved Whisper Lake, on Friday, July 30, 2021.
A native of Woodlyn, NJ she was born May 29, 1927 to the late Clarence and Madeline Greiss Graham.
She was raised and educated in Southern New Jersey and attended classes held by the Philadelphia College of Arts, which awakened her love for oil painting and ceramic arts. She taught students in Massachusetts and Pennsylvania, to their benefit and happiness.
Maggie worked as a legal assistant, then she and her husband, Bill, retired to Whispering Pines in 1983. Maggie enjoyed ceramics and basket making. She also volunteered at the Sandhills Children’s Center for 15 years until her failing eyesight would no longer permit her to continue.
Maggie married William “Bill” Macan Munroe in 1952 and they lived a happy life together until his passing in 2017.
Maggie is survived by three nephews, Christopher, Geoffrey and Jonathon Graham, as well as her great nieces and nephews, Delaney, Benjamin, and Griffin Graham, and Keileigh, Zane and Ada Williams.
A private interment will be held at Pinelawn Memorial Park.

Maggie and Bill traveled with the Sandhills Horticultural Society on several trips. I helped Fred Garrett lead these trips. I so enjoyed being with them. Maggie and Bill were such a delight to be around. So sorry for your loss.

Her outward expressions was a true reflection of her inner compassion – for life – and for her friends! Certainly she touched many lives, young & old… she did mine!!!
Maggie and Bill were good friends. When we lived in Whispering Pines, Maggie was an inspiration for the Garden Club’s Christmas decorations at Weymouth when it was the Whispering Pines Garden Club’s assignment to do something. She and Bill always attended the Garden Club Meetings, and Bill would usually comment that either my secretary or treasurer’s reports had errors in them. He had a wry sense of humor and you considered yourself fortunate he allowed you to be friends with them.
She was such a beautiful woman, loved dogs and still had one the last time I saw her. Despite her lack of vision, she always recognized my voice.
I know she and Bill are happy to be together again.
I count Maggie among one of my fondest memories during my years at Sandhills Children’s Center. She was meticulous in the work she did to support our evaluations. I actually saw Maggie at the Harris Teeter at Mill Creek a few months ago. Even after all the years and her vision loss she recognized my voice. I’m so glad I stopped to say hello to her. She was a lovely lady and epitomized what volunteerism is.
