Ray “Sunny” Gene Stout, Jr. passed away Thursday, August 27, 2026, at Moore Regional Hospital.
Born January 12, 1955, in the valley foothills of Monrovia, California, Sunny was the son of the late Ray “Sonny” Stout and Beverly Stump.
Sunny served for over 20 years in the U.S. Air Force as an Electronics Instructor – his kids have said that his two greatest honors in life were serving in the military and being their dad. Sunny loved retirement. He enjoyed traveling and spent his retirement doing odd jobs, but his favorite way to occupy his time was with his grandkids – he could often be found playing disc golf while waiting for them to get out of school. When he wasn’t tearing up the sky with a disc, he was “helping” his grandkids do their homework. Sunny was described as someone who had never met a stranger – he had no issue singing his heart out in the church choir or at karaoke to 1960 – 1970’s songs or playing his guitar for whoever would listen. He leaves behind a loving family who will miss him dearly.
He is survived by his three children: Ray Gene (Kim) Stout, III of Elma, WA; daughter, Jamie Marie (Tim) Stout-Kennedy of Indian Trail, NC; Dr. R.J. and Ela Stout, and their sons, Ronin and Declan, NC; his three other grandsons, Spencer Lewis, Matthew Stout, and Nathaniel Stout; brother, Brian Dean Stout; and sister, Samantha Kaye (Bill) Campbell and their extended family; and his beloved ex-wife, Catherine Stout.
A private memorial service will be held by the family.

Hey Father o’mine.
I’ll write more soon. You know, it’s very hard to keep focus.
I’ve learned so much. You are getting me through this.
Show love now. Save some love to share together later.
PS – I lit a “candle” for you and passed it on the left hand side.
