History of Powell Funeral Home:

Powell Funeral Home was founded by J.N. Powell in 1895 and was later sold to I.F. Chandler whose daughter Bessie Chandler Clark operated the funeral home until 1948. The funeral home was then sold to D.A. “June” Blue and E. Troy Geer who were brothers in law. After several years of operation together Troy decided to step aside, and June continued to operate Powell Funeral Home. A young man Frank “Jerry” Hardister came to work for June and would later become his successor.

June was very active in the community and respected by all. He served in many facets within the community while grooming Jerry into a confident funeral director. In 1987 June passed away after a hard fought battle with cancer. At that point Jerry assumed the role as owner and president of the company. Jerry used the talents that he had learned from June and continued a strong and loyal business until he retired. In 2008 Tommy Prickett and Robert Nunnaley purchased Powell Funeral Home.

Everyone was always professional and overly concerned. The staff showed compassion and care to all the family members. I really appreciate the attention to detail and the consideration of the staff, everything went exceptionally well.

In a difficult death situation, it is hard to make decisions. Also, if you don’t know the deceases wishes finding a direction to go in can be hard. Randy went above our expectations and we really appreciate all his help. Everyone including the driver at Powell Funeral home did a really great job. They took care of everything, so the family had very little to do, they also added their own special touches to the service.
