Mary Jane Kerr

Mary Jane Kerr of Sanford passed away on Monday, February 17, 2020, at UNC Medical Center at the age of 63.

Mary Jane was born in Puerto Rico on April 2, 1956, to David W. Kerr and Carmen E. Selgas. Before her unexpected passing, Mary Jane was a very kind, happy and loving person who always put others first before herself. She lived and breathed for her children and grandchildren. To say that Mary Jane was very talented is an understatement. Mary Jane worked for over twenty years at American Airlines traveling the world. She was known to work her magic in the kitchen to the delight of all those around her. Mary Jane was also a business owner. She owned her own restaurant and was also a massage therapist. She was a psychologist and college professor. Flowers, as well as plants, always reminded Mary Jane of her family and how much she loved them. Those who knew her best always affectionately knew her as MJ or Sunshine. To sum things up, she was the epitome of a friend, mother, grandmother, family member, colleague, and above all a great giving soul.

She leaves behind her children, Ramon D. Balsa (Eledy Rivas) of Greer, SC, Alfonso J. Balsa of Reston, VA, Arturo M. Balsa (Fiona Winoto) of Sanford; her father, David W. Kerr of Raeford; her brother, David E. Kerr of Humacao, PR; her grandchildren, Davier Balsa, Isla Balsa, Rico Balsa.

The family will receive family and friends at her home, 5727 Quail Ridge Dr, Sanford, NC 27332, on March 14, 2020 between the hours of 10:00 am and 3:00 pm. Casual attire is requested to celebrate Mary Jane's life.

Guestbook

  1. My cousin Mary Jane was a wonderful person.  Her sudden passing has left me numb.  Her mom, Titi Virita and my mom, Bessie Lancaster were first cousins and were very close.  We would visit the Kerr’s frequently. All my love and condolences to my cousin David, her sons, my nephews Ramoncito, Alfonsito and Arturo.  All my love,

    Bessie Lynn Lancaster (Elizabeth Lancaster-Rodriguez)
    Lorton, Virginia

  2. My condolences and prayers to the family. It is very sad to see a love one depart but she is now resting in the Lords arms. Rose (Dr Kerr office)

  3. I had the privilege of meeting Mary Jane last year at the dedication of her twin grandchildren (Isla and Rico). While our meeting was brief, I was impressed by her vivacious smile and graceful demeanor. She was certainly delighted in her grands, and took great pride in her family. My wife Julie and I are saddened that I lacked the opportunity to get to know her better, a matter we hope will be reckoned in eternity.

Julie and I, along with the Manna Church Sanford family extend our love and prayers to Mary Jane’s family.
    Pastor Tom Johnson
