Jerry L. Wilson
November 2, 1947 ~ October 13, 2021
Jerry Lawrence Wilson of Aberdeen went home to his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, October 13, 2021.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 16, 2021, at Crumpler Funeral Home-Aberdeen from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Funeral services will begin at 3:00 pm, Sunday, October 17, 2021, at Page Memorial United Methodist Church in Aberdeen. Interment will be in Pinelawn Memorial Park with Military Presence.
He was born November 2, 1947, to Raymond and Lucille Wilson of Southern Pines, N.C. where he grew up. He was a graduate of East Southern Pines High School where he loved and excelled in sports. During high school, he achieved the Most Outstanding Athlete Award. As an adult, he continued to play sports and coached baseball, softball, and basketball.
Jerry was very patriotic and loved his country. He served in the United States Army as a Military Police Officer. He trained in Okinawa as a Dog Handler and was sent to Vietnam where he and his dog Buck were utilized for many different operations. Jerry also served with the 173rd Airborne Brigade while in Vietnam.
With his experience in the military, he started a career in law enforcement working at the Moore County Sherriff's Department, Aberdeen Police Department, and Pinehurst Police Department. The majority of his career was spent with the Alcohol Beverage Control Law Enforcement in Moore County. He served as President of the N.C. ABC Law Enforcement from 1991-1992. During the last 10 years of his career, he was the Chief ABC Officer of Moore County.
Jerry was a loyal member of the Masonic Lodge and The American Legion. He spent many years as a Boy Scout Master with troop 68 in Aberdeen. He was a member at Page Memorial United Methodist Church and served the church in numerous ways throughout the years. He was a mentor, a loving and caring friend, and a person who loved being in service to others and his community. He was a loving and devoted husband, a great father, and a wonderful grandfather.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Lucille Wilson of Southern Pines, brother, Raymond Wilson, and sister, Phyllis McNeille. He leaves behind his wife of 51 years Sandra Wilson, daughter Shelly Wilson of New York City, son Michael Wilson (Alison) of West End, a grandson Parker Wilson of West End, who was the apple of his eye, brother Gene Wilson of Pinebluff, sister Lela Tew (Miles) of Raleigh, sister-in-law Donna Smith (Harmon) of Durham, nieces, nephews and many dear friends.
Donations in his memory can be made to Page Memorial United Methodist Church, Aberdeen, and/or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
I will always remember Jerry helping the Methodist Men cook turkeys for our Church Bazzars. He worked to serve in so many ways. I will really miss his presence at church and in the community. Prayers for Sandra, Shelly, Michael and the entire Family.
We were sorry to learn of Jerry’s accident and passing. He was a dear friend and beloved member at Page. Prayers going out for Sandra, Shelly and Michael.
I am so sorry to learn of Jerry’s passing. It was a pleasure to work with him over the years as an Assistant District Attorney and then later to see the professional way he always handled himself in court when I was presiding judge. The family will be in our thoughts and prayers. May you be blessed with peace, comfort and strength for the days ahead. God bless
Met Jerry throughout my brother Bobby Dean. They played football at East Southern Pines HS. I entered HS the next year and Jerry was a friend. He was always friendly to all students. We ran track and played baseball together.
He will be greatly missed by friends.
Jerry lived across the street from us in Garland village outside of Aberdeen. When he worked for the ABC I saw him often because I worked for the Sheraton/ Holiday Inn in Southern Pines in food and beverage. He often came by for a cup of coffee . He was a great neighbor. I will always remember those days fondly. Sandra’s, Shelly and Michael I was so sorry to read of his passing. Sincerely Peggy Hughes. I know Meg a d Whitney Garner send along condolences as well.
