Melvin Lee Bowman

November 5, 1938 ~ January 26, 2024
Melvin Lee Bowman, 85, of Pinehurst, passed away on 1/26/2024 at home after a short battle with cancer.
He was born in Henrietta, MO, on November 5, 1938, to Albert & Florence Bowman.
Mel described himself as a “poor farm boy” who ended up traveling the world & all 50 states. He had a long, successful career with Continental Airlines and the Cargo Development Group. Ultimately, he owned his own Team Air Express business in Charlotte, NC, where he & his wife, Carol, worked side by side in the business until their retirement to Pinehurst in 2004.
During his career, he and Carol lived in many places, including Guam & Hawaii, where they enjoyed playing golf, the beaches, and the amazing sunsets.
Mel was a 3rd degree Master Mason of the Jewel Masonic Lodge in Pleasant Hill, MO. He also obtained his 32-degree Scottish Rite and was a proud member of the Oasis Shrine of the Temple in Charlotte, NC. He enjoyed life and loved cooking for family & friends, golfing with Carol & his buddies, traveling, and bringing people together.
He was predeceased by his parents and only brother, Marvin Glen Bowman.
Mel is survived by his loving wife Carol of 54 years, daughter Cindy Sisson (Larry), granddaughters Dena Ford (Chris), Lisa Hook (Jacob), great-grandchildren Claire & Cooper Ford, nephews Stephen Raiteri, Kenneth Raiteri (Marianne Engle), Matthew Raiteri (Felice) and niece Regina Langman (Jim) and many dear friends.
Per Mel’s request, there will not be a service. In honor of Mel, donations may be made to the Carolina Bird Club (www.carolinabirdclub.org).
Mel was a wonderful, thoughtful friend with a positive attitude that was contagious. He was always ready to share a ride to golf, a yummy treat he had made or a great story. We loved spending time with him and will miss him greatly. Mel was a blessing in our lives. Our love, thoughts and prayers are with Carol, Cindy and the whole family.
Thank you Mel for the beautiful wedding bench and always thinking of us with those delicious cookies. B&L
