William "Bill" Lee Montjoy
October 5, 1951 ~ April 22, 2026
It is with great sadness that the family of Bill Montjoy, announce his passing April 22, 2026, following a lengthy illness.
Bill was born to Theodore and Barbara Montjoy, October 5, 1951, in Red Springs, North Carolina. He was their fifth child following Clara Mae, Barbara “Bobbie” Jean, Charles and Carl. When Bill was five, the family moved to Robbins, NC for his father to run the Milliken Mill. He received his education via the Moore County School system, graduating from North Moore High School in 1968.
Bill married Marcia Gay Nall June 17,1973, and after several years of waiting, welcomed their only child, William “Billy” Lee Montjoy, Jr., May 3, 1981. Their 14yr marriage sadly ended with Marcia’s death in early 1988. Bill would go on to date and eventually marry his second wife, Virginia Burns, in 1997, which officially added his two adult bonus daughters, Janet and Jennifer to the family.
Bill worked several jobs throughout his life including enlisting in the National Guard, working briefly for the Moore County Sheriff’s Department, and starting a tire recapping business with his brother Charles. He eventually worked for Ingersoll Rand and Moore Machine Shop before retirement. Bill was a member of First Baptist Church of Robbins, and Elise Lodge 555, serving as Master of Lodge in 2018.
In those early years of retirement, he spent a lot of time with his car club “The 705 Cruisers” and was proud to be a “Shade Dog” along with his brother, Carl, and friends Charlie Smoak and RL Tew. He loved attending car shows, watching car shows, appreciating all things Mopar, and his 2008 Dodge Challenger in Hemi-Orange with black racing stripes.
Bill has had many nicknames in his lifetime; “Wild Bill”, “Pappy” but the one he enjoyed most was being called “Papa” by his grandchildren: Payton, Briana, Owen, Emma, Sonny, Cora and Philip. He was always happiest spending time with his family and friends. He would absolutely light up around his grandchildren, and his smile would cover the breadth of his face.
Bill is predeceased by his parents, C T Sr. and Barbara, in laws, Roger and Janie Nall and Clemith and Ardena Burns, sister, Clara Mae Montjoy (in childhood), spouse, Marcia Nall Montjoy, sister, “Bobbie” Montjoy Kennedy, nephew, Charles Theodore “CT” Montjoy, Jr., niece, Jeany Grey, great nephew, William “Little William” Wayne Allred III, sister in law, Ruby Burns Brown, brothers-in-law, Bascom Ritter and Fred Brown, and infant grand-daughter Marcia Jane Montjoy.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 29 years, Virginia Burns Montjoy, son William “Billy” Lee Montjoy, Jr (Jean), daughters, Jennifer Smith (Bryon) and Janet Singletary (Joey), his grandchildren Payton Muoio ( Domenick), Briana Smith (Jess Laveroni), Owen Singletary (Alexis Owens), Emma Smith ( Hunter Gilder), Cora and Philip Montjoy, Sonny Smith, great-grand daughter Parker Muoio and another great-grand daughter to arrive in September. He is also remembered by his brothers Charles Montjoy (Brenda) and Carl Montjoy (Vera), nieces and nephews: Susan Haid, Patty Chalflinch, Lora Montjoy, Sandra Montjoy, Stephen Montjoy and their families, brothers-in-law, Philip Nall and his family and Carlton “Buck” Kennedy and sisters-in-law Mennie Ritter, Nita Burns and Anise Castleberry and their families, and numerous other family members in North Carolina and across the country.
Many words could be used to describe Bill; funny, kind, stubborn, generous. However, the word that has been used most consistently these last few weeks and months, is loving. Bill loved fiercely and deeply the people who were closest to him. We are all devastated by his passing and his spirit lives on in the lives of those he touched.
“His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.” Matthew 25:23 KJB
