Norma Ann Conoly, age 84, of Carthage, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at FirstHealth Hospice House in Pinehurst.
A native of Moore County, she was the daughter of the late Norman (for whom she was named) and Vera Mae Arnold Fields. Norma was outgoing and friendly with everyone she knew. She was voted “best legs” at Carthage High School. Her blood was Carolina blue because she loved the Carolina Tar Heels and the Washington Redskins. She was a very cosmopolitan and well-read woman. She always told her daughter to “watch for people who didn’t have a pet or a plant, because that’s how you could tell if they could care for something.” She was saved at age 73 at Pinelake Health and Rehabilitation Center by Pastor Eugene Ussery and loved the Lord with all her heart.
Early in life, Norma worked as an operator with the telephone company and did graphic design work in Fairfax, Virginia. Later in life, she worked at the Sandhills Citizen as a typesetter and at Whistlestop Printers.
Norma was preceded in death by her daughter, Leah Colwell; her sister, Linda Taylor; and her brother, Phillip Fields.
She is survived by her daughter, Kimberly Colwell of Aberdeen, and her brothers, Norman “Bud” Fields of Carthage and Charles Fields of Kernersville.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at Priest Hill Presbyterian Church with Pastors Archie Stevens and Jim Boyte officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
