Leona Dora Salmons

Leona Dora Salmons passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on May 3, 1929, to Harry and Granny Stout, Leona lived a long and beautiful life filled with love, creativity, and devotion to those she held dear. She worked as a seamstress in textiles for many years, utilizing and learning her many seamstress skills. She found great joy in playing bingo, sewing, and creating beautiful dresses, clothing, and quilts with her gifted hands. She especially treasured spending time visiting the game room with her daughter, making memories that will forever be cherished. 

Leona was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Roy Salmons, and her son, Charles Salmons.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Glenda Marie Kirk and husband John “Jack” Kirk of Carthage; her grandchildren, Jackie and Walt Welder, Julie and Keith Ashburn, James Cy Kirk and wife Elizabeth, and Beth Johnson and husband, Earl of Carthage, David Salmons, Randy Salmons; as well as 10 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren, all of whom will deeply miss her.

Celebrate Leona’s life with a time of fellowship and a game of Bingo. Her memorial will be held on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Fry & Prickett Funeral Home: 402 Saunders Street, Carthage, NC.
