Bertha Wicker Harms, 94, passed away peacefully at her home in Jackson Springs, North Carolina, on Saturday morning, June 20, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on July 11, 1931, in Pinehurst, NC, to the late Lonnie and Jane McDonald Wicker, Bertha was a resident of Jackson Springs and a faithful member of McDonalds Chapel Presbyterian Church. She devoted several years as a Den Mother for the Pinehurst Club Scouts and was an active supporter of the Pinecrest High School Band and Booster Club. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. For several years, she worked at the Carolina Sports Plaza in Southern Pines, a club founded, built, and owned by her late husband, Al Harms.
Bertha was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Al Harms; her parents, Lonnie and Annie Jane McDonald Wicker, her brothers, Marvin, Melvin, Arthur and John; and her sister, Helen.
She is survived by her two sons, Jeff (wife-Candace) of Foxfire Village, NC, and Jerry (wife-Marsha) of Aberdeen, NC; and three grandchildren; Evan Harms, Courtney Harms, and Christopher Harms.
A Funeral service will be held on Friday, June 26, 2026, 2pm at McDonalds Chapel Presbyterian Church, 1374 Foxfire Road, Aberdeen, NC 28315, with Pastor Judy Boroughs officiating. A public viewing will take place one hour prior to the service. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall following the service.
Interment will follow immediately in the church cemetery.
