Resided in: Aberdeen, North carolina

Charlotte Passapae Huff died peacefully at home on July 9, 2026. She was born in Catonsville, MD, to the late Helen Giddings and Charles Odell Passapae. Although an only child, she was like a sister to her cousins Tom and Rob Rogers, who lived nearby. She was a tomboy who loved the outdoors and fell in love with horses at an early age. She made every effort to be near horses, often sneaking off to visit some in a nearby stable.

She attended several schools that focused on horses, including a year at Porlock Academy in England. After coming home, she took her equestrian skills to the racetrack, where she loved both the riding and the community.

She moved to Southern Pines in 1971 to break and train thoroughbreds and adopted the area as home. In 1978, she met Ron Huff, a local Hoke County native, and they were married in 1984.

Their only child, Riley, was born in 1987 after moving into the house that Ron had built on family land in 1980. She christened the property Frog Holler and spent her life making it a wonderful home. Her gardening skills produced spectacular results, and she spent hours scrapbooking throughout the decades. She realized her dream of owning a horse and eventually owned two horses and a couple of donkeys. She loved nothing better than to groom and ride them. She wore spectacular hats to the Stoneybrook Steeplechase and won prizes for her efforts. She loved to attend Ron’s musical performances and referred to herself as a Band- Aid. She was an animal lover who always had dogs, cats, and sometimes chickens.

Charlotte was always high-spirited and mischievous. She loved to be around friends and hosted wonderful events at Frog Holler. She collected hundreds of frogs, including some live ones that often snuck into the pool at night. She was the definition of a great hostess and set a spectacular table for dinner guests. She was a sun lover and spent hours floating in the pool that she had insisted on building, in spite of Ron’s “practical” objections. The pool became another gathering place for friends. Ron and Charlotte were able to travel, visiting many places, including Africa, where they experienced safari parks and the wonders of Egypt – and rode a camel.

Charlotte is survived by her husband of 41 years, Ron, and their son, Riley, of Oakland, CA. She also leaves behind lots of close friends and extended family. Ron has special thanks for Doris McGougan and Barbara Burley, who helped her faithfully over the years, and to Hospice that helped in the final days.

A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.

Services are entrusted to Powell Funeral Home of Aberdeen, NC.
