James Ray Perryman, age 84, of Carthage, NC, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, July 22, 2026.
He was born on February 28, 1942, in Thompsonville, Illinois.
James was the son of the late William O. Perryman and Vada Perryman. He honorably served his country in the United States Army.
He was a man of simple pleasures. He was deeply devoted to his family, enjoyed fishing, watching westerns, tinkering around the house, riding his lawn mower, and especially cherished time spent with his daughter, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his brothers, William Perryman and Ralph Perryman.
He is survived by his daughter, Tonya McKenzie and her husband, Landon, of West End; six grandchildren, Kayla Needham and her husband, Matthew of West End, Keneth Christian of Carthage, Abby McKenzie of West End, Johnny Mckenzie of West End, Dillon Mckenzie and his wife Jessica of West End and Nathan Mckenzie of West End; seven great-grandchildren, Amberleigh Kiser, Bentley Kiser, Cayden Needham, Landon Mckenzie, Magnolia Mckenzie, Carter Mckenzie and Wyatt Mckenzie; sister Shirley Davis of West Frankfort, Illinois; sister in law Leslie Perryman of Thompsonville, Illinois; many nieces and nephews all from Illinois; and his former wife Joyce Perryman of Carthage who cared for him in his final days.
A private memorial will be held at a later date.
