Floyd M. Black, of West End, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side, on September 6th, just two days shy of his 88th birthday.

A native of Moore County, he was a son of the late Marvin and Lula McKenzie Black. Floyd was a graduate of Farmlife School and a U.S. Navy veteran. He worked for many years as a diesel mechanic for DeWitt Trucking, and his last position was as a truck driver at Coastal AgroBusiness. Floyd enjoyed people and never met a stranger. He loved eating at local diners, visiting with friends, and meeting new people, and he will always be remembered for his big smile and contagious laugh.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Black, who passed away in 1990; his brothers, Leon Black and Bill Black; and his son-in-law, Timothy Stone.

He is survived by his children, Robin Prim and husband Robert of Carthage, Lynn Stone of Carthage, and Ray Black of N. Wilkesboro; his brothers, Earl Black of Robbins and James Black of Fayetteville; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
