Born in: Guasave, Mexico
Resided in: Sanford, North Carolina

Vicente Osvaldo “Ozzie” Castillo Gonzalez, 36, was born on November 5, 1989, in Guasave, Sinaloa, Mexico, to Belén Castillo Soto and María Monserrat Gonzalez-Valdez. His family’s lives changed unexpectedly and heartbreakingly when Ozzie passed away on Sunday, September 27, 2026.

Ozzie was so many things to the people who loved him—a son, a big brother, an uncle, and someone whose presence was impossible to overlook. He was curious, adventurous, intelligent, stubborn, funny in his own way, and completely himself. Losing him so suddenly has left a space in his family that cannot be filled.

Ozzie loved being outdoors and was always drawn to things that challenged him. Whether he was hiking, camping, ziplining, riding roller coasters, or finding some other way to get his adrenaline going, he wasn’t afraid of an adventure. He had an incredibly curious mind and could tell you about subjects most people would never even think to research. He loved learning; he loved sharing what he knew, and perhaps most importantly to Ozzie—he loved being right.

He also loved gaming, playing his guitar, and writing. Ozzie had been working on a book that, sadly, he never had the chance to finish. Those closest to him will also remember his famously terrible jokes and the way watching a movie with him was never simply watching a movie. Ozzie was known to pause a movie every few minutes to explain what was happening and make absolutely certain everyone understood it—whether they needed the explanation or not. These are the little things his family will miss more than words can express.

Above everything else, Ozzie was deeply loved. He was a big brother whose siblings grew up with him beside them and an uncle who loved being part of his nieces’ and nephews’ lives. His family will miss his voice, his humor, his endless supply of random knowledge, his stubborn insistence that he was right, and all the ordinary little moments they never imagined would one day become some of their most precious memories.

Ozzie leaves behind his mother, María Monserrat Gonzalez-Valdez, and his stepfather, Sergio Lopez Medina; his four siblings, Ruben Gonzalez, Rebecca Gonzalez, Alondra Gonzalez (Corey Hurley), and Guillermo “Willie” Gonzalez; and his beloved nieces and nephew, Gianna, Luna, Aitana, Azeleigh, and Cole. He also leaves behind Magaly Suarez, along with many other family members and loved ones whose lives were touched by Ozzie.

Although 36 years was nowhere near enough time, Ozzie filled those years with curiosity, adventure, laughter, stories, music, and memories that his family will continue to carry with them. He was one of a kind, and he will be loved, remembered, talked about, laughed about, and deeply missed for the rest of their lives.

A funeral service celebrating Ozzie’s life will be held on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Kennedy Funeral Home, 241 North Middleton Street, Robbins, North Carolina. Family will receive friends and loved ones from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. prior to the service. The family asks that guests wear white attire.
