Lendon Elton Spivey, a.k.a. “Mayor” and “Putnam Blue Bird,” age 88 of Carthage died Thursday, October 8, 2026 at Peak Resources after a brief period of declining health.

Born at home in Putnam, he was one of 12 children born to the late John Calvin Madison Spivey and Sadie Brady Spivey on June 6, 1938. He joined the US Army at age 17 and served our country for four years. After returning home he worked in textiles and later operated two different gas stations before starting Spivey’s Garage and Wrecker Service in 1977. In 2008 he retired and turned the business over to his grandson Jasper.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Helen Britt Spivey; son Ricky Spivey; grandson Cooper Spivey; and 10 of his siblings.

He is survived by his daughter Linda Spivey Taylor (Terry); son Johnny Spivey (Tara); daughter-in-law Sandra Spivey; sister Maxine Spivey Tippett; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at Putnam Friends Church on Tuesday, October 13, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor James Brewer officiating. Burial will follow at the home.

Services are entrusted to Fry & Prickett Funeral Home.

  1. Lendon was a fine, hard working man. He helped me out with his rollback anytime I needed it. I thought the world of him and his sister Maxine .She is a fine woman as well. Prayers for all the family and friends. So sorry for the loss to everyone.::::::: Jim Brady

  2. Prayers are going up asking God to give comfort into his family. I asked him to tow me in different times. You knew you could depend on his service and once you called him you wouldn’t have long to wait. Family just look to the Lord and He will comfort, help and strengthen you. Read the Bible for real comfort. Read John chapter 14 for a start.

  3. Lendon was a good man . And his wife hellen was a sweet lady. I knew the family. I worked with Linda at car fab. Johnny worked with my dad JD patterson at FCX . Prayers for linda

    Kim and I are grieved for you all in your loss of Mr. Spivey. He was such a great man and friend to all he met. He and Mrs. Spivey always encouraged me as a teacher, coach and principal. I will always cherish that. He was a great servant of people he helped . His and her devotion to family is commendable.
