Timothy Ray Eckersley, 62, a devoted soldier, loyal friend, and beloved family member, passed away on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital.

Tim was born on April 19, 1962, to the late Frank “Harold” Eckersley and Phyllis Ann Wilson McNeille in Moore County.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Raymond and Lucille Wilson, and uncles, Jerry Wilson and Raymond Wilson Jr.

He is survived by two sisters, Sandra Evans and Diane Logan of Winston-Salem; Step-brother, David Duffer; uncle, Gene Wilson of Pinebluff; aunts, Sandra Wilson of Aberdeen and Lela Tew (Miles) of Raleigh; cousin, Michael (Alison) Wilson of West End; and many paternal family members, beloved nephews, cousins, and friends.

Timothy served honorably in the U.S. Army for 24 years and continued his dedication to the military as a contractor, specializing in training and surveillance, including his work with Robin Sage.  Timothy was a prankster at heart, always ready with a joke or clever trick to bring laughter to those around him.  He found joy reminiscing with family and friends, sharing stories of the past, and strengthening the bonds he cherished.  A true sportsman, Timothy was passionate about football and basketball, always keeping up with statistics and never missing games.  Above all, Timothy had a kind and generous heart.  He would give the shirt off his back to those he loved.  His selflessness, humor, and unwavering loyalty will be deeply missed by all those who knew him.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at 3:00 p.m., at Pinelawn Memorial Park in Southern Pines with full military honors. The service will be officiated by Pastor Gregg Newton.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Disabled American Veterans or the Moore County Humane Society.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Tim was a great family/friend and will be dearly missed. If everyone in the world had a friend like Tim it would be a much better place.. For him to pass on “April fools day” is so very fitting for the pranks/laughs and memories he made with everyone he touched. Love ya and see you on the next side!

  2. Tim was a great friend and like a brother to me for the time I knew him. He was a great mentor when I started .

  3. Tim was a friend whom I worked with for many years. He was smart, loyal, dedicated and had a wonderful sense of humor. He would go out of his way to help you whether it was to move a safe or pick up a vehicle. He was a retired US Army combat veteran whom continued to support all branches of service, especially the Special Operations Forces. RIP Tim, you will be missed.

  4. Gone too early, but thankful that I got to know him, even for a relatively short time. Always had to talk smack about Georgia vs. Alabama, but we never missed a chance to talk. Hope everyone looks back and realizes how much better the world was with Tim in it. He’ll be missed and send love and hugs to his family.

  5. Tim was a great family/ friend and will be dearly missed. He would go out of his way to help in any way he could. I will cherish all the memories and meals we shared. He had a fond love for all of his boxer dogs and gave them the best of everything. He truly was a wonderful person with a heart of gold. Love and miss you and look forward to seeing you in Heaven.

  6. Tim became a good friend of mine during the many years of working together in Robin Sage. A Army vet Tim demonstrated dedication and loyalty to military service thru his support of Robin Sage and other Special Forces training. He was smart, a go to guy, a prankster, there was no body like Tim. You will be missed by all of us. Tim I’ll see you when I get there!

  7. RIP my friend. Great guy, worked with him many times on 9115 and 9114. He did have a great sense of humor. Many prayers for his family…

  8. Fly High my friend and go be in the arms of angels . You will be truly missed. You was a veteran Army 1st Cav already Division brother and a true close friend since 1984 . My entire family loved you and concidered you as adopted family through our friendship. You was a chritian , a honorable brave couragious, M1 Abrams tank commander Master Gunning soldier, a warrior, a loyal dependable. Honest, best friend ever. You always were the type person that was a better friend than everyone else was for you. You always treated people like you liked to be treated. Not enough Words to describe my your honorable character my fallen friend. I’ll alway thank God for allowing me to have had the honor of being allowed to be your friend. We had lots of future plans to travel and go on our bucket list vacation but our plans and time line got changed. Got decided he needed a Brave New Warrior Angel to be the new guard at the front gates of heaven. I will always be grateful to you for your service to our country . Salutes and high fives brother !!!!

  9. This is the best friend I’ve had. Tim was a true friend to everyone. He did favors for me and would never charge me and I did favor for tim I would pick him up and take him and then I’d bring it back that afternoon. I’ve never had to go to his house but one timeto take him home and rest time he would get out of the crossroads at the water tank and boogie on foot down to where he live. He was in best friend that anyone could ever ask for thank you to all you did and will we will see you later bye
