Donald Frederick Evans, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and uncle, passed away on Saturday, September 22, 2012, at Hospice House in Pinehurst, following a valiant battle against cancer.
Don was born November 22, 1934 in Greensboro, NC to Cheyney Stauffer Evans and Margaret Hall Evans. He was raised in Greensboro, and summers were spent at the family home in Myrtle Beach.
Don graduated from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, where he was a member of the Order of the Old Well and Sigma Chi Fraternity. He finished with a B.S. in Economics.
Mr. Evans served as a Lieutenant JG in the US Navy from 1958 to 1961, stationed in Sasebo, Japan.
Over the years Donald Evans established a diverse range of businesses, all of which were evidence of his creative and entrepreneurial skills.
Don was preceded in death by his mother and father, his son, Durell Evans, brothers David Evans and Cheyney Evans, and sister, Margaret Evans.
He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Mary Margaret; children: Carothers (Car) Evans and wife, Heidi, of Ponte Verde, Florida, John Evans, of Pinehurst, and Katherine D. Evans of Houston, Texas, as well as 5 grandchildren, Jordan and Taylor Evans, and Austin, Hunter, and Duncan Evans. He leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for the family are planned.
