Estelle M. Boroughs

Estelle McBride Boroughs, 90, of Southern Pines, passed away Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014, at FirstHealth Hospice and Palliative Care in Pinehurst.
She was born on Nov. 30, 1923, daughter of the late Edgbert McBride and Ella Mae Temple McBride. After graduation from Aberdeen High School, she received her bachelor's degree from East Carolina University and later her master's degree from UNC-Chapel Hill. She taught special education (reading) at Vass-Lakeview and Southern Pines elementary schools until her retirement. She was an active member of the Southern Pines Jehovah's Witnesses' congregation.
She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Woodrow N. Boroughs, of the home; sons, Nelson Boroughs and wife, Gail, of Southern Pines, Robert Boroughs, of Southern Pines, and daughter, Janice B. Eason and husband Jim, of Kinston.
A graveside services will be held at noon Saturday Feb. 1, at Pinelawn Memorial Park in Southern Pines, followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. at The Southern Pines Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Southern Pines Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses' 1468 Pennsylvania Ave. Extension Southern Pines, NC 28387. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday Jan. 31, at Powell Funeral Home in Southern Pines.
