Dorothy "Dot" Garner Childress, age 88, died Sunday, May 29, 2016 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital.

 

A funeral service is planned for 2:00 PM, Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at Red Branch Baptist Church, with the Reverend Scott McInnis and Reverend Charles Goins officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

 

Dot was a native of Moore County and a graduate of West End High School. She loved to grow flowers in her garden.  Dot was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.  She enjoyed time spent with her family.  Dot and her husband loved the Lord and their church, they enjoyed singing gospel music and were active members of the church. Dot was a daughter of the late Arthur and Ada Reynolds Garner. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Ernest F. Childress; daughter, Carol Childress; granddaughter Gwendolyn Hope Goins and six brothers and sisters.

 

Dot is survived by daughters: Hope Goins and husband, Charles; Debbie Christian and husband, Terry;son, Reese Childress and wife Teree; 10 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, 5 step great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren; sister: Frances Martindale.

 

The family will receive friends from noon to 2 PM on Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at Red Branch Baptist Church Fellowship Hall and from 6 to 8 PM, Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at Fry & Prickett Funeral Home in Carthage.
