Wilma Bryant Turberville, age 94 of Milton, NC died Thursday, June 23, 2016 at Stradford Health and Rehabilitation Center in Danville, VA.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Monday at Milton Baptist Church. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 12:30 - 1:30 PM at Fry & Prickett Funeral Home in Carthage. Following the visitation at 2:00 PM there will be a graveside service at Lamms Grove Primitive Baptist Church in Carthage.

Wilma was born in Moore County on June 28, 1921 to the late Rufus Ellis and Ida Maude Key Bryant. She graduated from Cameron School in 1938 and attended the Institute of Art in Pittsburgh, PA. In 1946 she married her husband Frank B. Turberville, Jr. after which they moved by train to Texas where both of them attended the University of Texas. Because of Frank’s job the lived in many areas including Asheville, Orangeburg, SC, Lexington, NC and Alexandria, VA. In 1981 Frank retired and the family moved to Milton, NC.

Wilma was an active member of First Baptist Church in Alexandria for many years where she taught Sunday school and held other positions in the church. She was also an artist and was a long time member of the Danville Art League.

She was preceded in death by two sisters Tennie Kelly and Mildred Russell; four brothers Herman, Ralph, Billy and Frank Bryant.

 

She is survived by her husband of 70 year Frank Burton Turberville, Jr.; sons Frank B. Turberville, III of Roxboro, Charles Turberville of Milton; sisters Rose Denny of Pleasant Garden, Ruth Barger of Carthage; brother Charles Bryant of Aberdeen; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
