Andrew Charles Appanaitis, Jr., age 80, of Cameron died Wednesday (November 23, 2016) at FirstHealth Hospice House in Pinehurst. 


Graveside services will be 2:00 PM Saturday at White Hill Presbyterian Church conducted by the Rev. Vance Lowe. 


A native of Moore County, he was the son of the late Andrew Charles and Hazel Fry Appanaitis. A graduate of Elise High School in Robbins, he was also a US Navy Veteran. Following his time in the service, he graduated from Catawba College and returned to Elise Middle School where he taught and coached football, basketball, and baseball for many years.  He was an avid fisherman and hunter and loved dogs. He was also a philatelist (stamp collector). He enjoyed the simple things in life, like a bacon cheeseburger, oatmeal raisin cookies, and spending time with his family – especially his four granddaughters, who brought him much joy.


He is survived by his wife Kitty McDonald Appanaitis; son Dr. Alex Appanaitis and wife Mariedith of Lewisville; daughter Dr. Holly Appanaitis and husband Lee Edwards of Cameron; and four grandchildren Mary-Kate, Alexa, Bella and Ava.

  17. I just noticed Andy’s obituary in The Pilot and am so sorry to hear of his passing. I taught with him for a few years at Elise and have some fond memories. My sympathy to all the family.

  18. I’m very sorry for your loss. At Acts 24:15 though, God actually assures us that in the near future, he will resurrect all who have died. I sincerely hope that this scripture will be of encouragement for you as well as your family in these difficult times
