James David Mercer

James David “J.D.” Mercer, age 83 of Carthage died Saturday at his home.
Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Tuesday at First Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Meadowbrook Cemetery in Lumberton.
A native of Robeson County he was a son of the late Add Hampton and Dorothy Stone Mercer. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and worked for A&P Tea Company for 23 years and as a Moore County Magistrate for 16 years. He served on the Carthage Volunteer Fire Department, and was a member of the Carthage Jaycees and Carthage Lodge #181, A.F & A.M. Masonic Lodge where he was a 32 Degree Mason.
He was preceded in death by his wife Hazel Kinlaw Mercer; brother A.H Mercer and sister Evelyn Hickman.
He is survived by: sons Keith Mercer and wife Janice of Carthage, Terry Alan Mercer and wife Cynthia of Madison, Ronald Hampton Mercer of Maysville, KY and James David Mercer, Jr. of Cameron; sister Doris Guyton of Fayetteville; six grandchildren Lauren Mercer, Matthew Mercer, Mitchell Mercer, Michael Mercer, Tony Mercer and Jolee Mercer; two great-grandchildren Jocelyn and Kinlee.
The family will receive friends at Fry & Prickett Funeral Home from 6:00 - 8:00 PM Monday.
