Adelaide Sanagan

Charlotte Adelaide Sanagan, 98, of Southern Pines, passed away peacefully at her home on September 19th. 'Addie' was born July 21, 1915 in Charlotte, NC to father Roy Sanford Ely and mother Leigh Ryan Ely. A graduate of the University of Michigan, Adelaide was preceded in death by sister Leigh Russler Ely, brother Winston Theodore Ely and nephew Edward Winston Ely. Addie's beloved husband Alan, a RCAF pilot, was killed during World War II.
Following the war, Adelaide and sister Leigh resided in Southern California for over 50 years where among other things, Addie owned and operated a citrus ranch in the San Fernando Valley. In 1999 the two sisters moved to Moore County.
Surviving is niece Judith Hatcher and nephew Bartlett Ely, both of Southern Pines. A memorial service will be held at 11 am Thursday, October 3rd at the Powell Funeral Home in Southern Pines. Following the ceremony lunch will be served at the home of Judith Hatcher. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Liberty Hospice Services, 300 West Pennsylvania Avenue Southern Pines, NC 28387.
