Asa Lee Bailey, II

With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Asa Lee Bailey II, age 65, of Whispering Pines, NC.  Asa passed away on Sunday, June 21, 2026, at his home.

Born February 18, 1961, at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California, Asa grew up in Southern Pines. It is there where he learned and developed his love of service to others.  As a young member of the local rescue squad and fire department, Asa knew that a lifetime of public service was his calling.  He spent many years as a fireman and police officer serving in North Myrtle Beach, SC, before returning home to Moore County in 1999.  It is then that he began his duties as a police officer for the Aberdeen Police Department.  Asa retired from the Aberdeen Police Department in 2017 at the rank of Sergeant.  Not quite ready to stay home, Asa went to work for Lee Electrical Construction in Aberdeen after his police days.  He so enjoyed the many miles that he drove and people that he encountered along the highways all the while he represented Lee Electrical.  

Asa had a love of people and so enjoyed traveling to different places to experience everything that they had to offer.  Some of his favorite trips were taken on Carnival Cruise Lines where he loved everything about the Caribbean, even rock climbing in Aruba.   

Family time was always the best time for Asa.  A large gathering of family and friends is where his personality truly shined.  You never knew what he was going to say next, which always provided great comic relief.  He was very proud of his boys and cherished his grandchildren.

Asa is survived by his sons, Asa III and his wife Alyssa of Carthage; Andrew and his wife Allison of Carthage; and Michael of Westminster, Colorado; by his sisters, Leah Collins, of Whispering Pines; Maria Bailey of Whispering Pines; and Roberta Maness and her husband Richard of Seven Lakes; grandchildren Wesley, Asa IV, Trey, Hannah, Sarah, and Anna; a host of nephews and nieces who loved him dearly; his sister-in-law Angela Bailey of Chester, Virginia; and his beloved dog Bentley.   Asa was loved by many friends who will miss him greatly, but who will continue to remember him as the “one of a kind” person that he was.

Asa is preceded in death by his parents, Asa and Myra Bailey; his son Aaron Bailey; his brother, David Bailey; and his brother-in-law, Rodney Collins.

A memorial service will be held July 7, 2026. The family will receive friends at Pinehurst United Methodist Church, located at 4111 Airport Rd., beginning at 2 pm with a Memorial Service to follow at 3 pm. The family will then adjourn to 715 Bar & Grill, located at 715 SW Broad St. in Southern Pines, for a celebration of life. 

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
