Calvin “Beechy” Garner, 92,  passed away Friday, January 2, 2026 at Chatham Hospital UNC.

Calvin served his country in the United States Army, during the Korean War.  He worked in textiles for Klopman Mill for years, but  Beechy loved being outdoors. He began farming  poultry and cattle, for the rest of his life. He enjoyed hunting and fishing all along the creek and the river.  He was at peace when he was able to walk the river bank.  Beechy was a self taught taxidermist, he took care of many friends and neighbors prize trophy fish and deer.  He was very proud of a large elk mount that he had completed. Beechy always had dogs and cats that he cared for and loved.  He was a son of the late Bennie and Mary Elizabeth “Lizzie” Ritter Garner and was preceded in death by great grandson: Calvin; siblings; Ava Shieffield, John Garner, Claude Garner; son in law; Dr. Phillip Scotton.

He is survived by wife: Marie; son: Tony Garner; daughters: Judy Scotton, Marilyn Stout and husband Royce, Joanne Pate and husband Jimmy; 2 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren: many nieces, nephews and friends.

Graveside service, with Military Honors, will be 2 PM, Thursday, January 8, 2026 at Smyrna Church Cemetery, with Reverend Farrell Hussey officiating.  The body will lie in state prior to the service beginning at 9 AM at Kennedy Funeral Home.
