Charles Albert Yonkman, 76, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 8, 2026, at FirstHealth Hospice House in West End, North Carolina.

Born on July 17, 1949, in Muskegon, Michigan, to the late Walter and Betty Underwood Yonkman. Charles was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He graduated from Michigan State University with a degree of Bachelor of Science with a major in Criminology and a minor in Business. He then worked for many years as a police officer for the St. Augustine, Florida, Police Department. Later, Charles enjoyed assisting his son-in-law, Jonathan, in managing his business, Grieme Roofing.

His heart, however, was with his grandchildren and spending time with his family. He enjoyed playing cards with his grandchildren, was a devoted Alabama football fan, and dedicated his time to his place of worship by volunteering in his community.

Charles is survived by his wife of 49 years, Cynthia Joy Yonkman; his daughter, Elizabeth, and her husband, Jonathan Grieme; his three grandchildren, Judah, Genevieve, and Jessamine Grieme, all of Pinehurst; and his brother, Tom Yonkman of San Diego, California.

Guestbook

  1. Dear Cindy, Elizabeth, and family. My sincerest sympathy in the loss of your husband, father, grandfather, (and my cousin). I am thankful we connected after so many years when I did the family history in 2024. You will continue in my thoughts and prayers. I know for sure that he loved his family very much.

  2. Dear Yonkman Family,

May God bring you all peace and comfort during this time. My deepest sincere condolences.

Mr. Yonkman was one of our favorites at Teeters. It was truly a pleasure seeing him in the store each time.

Mr. Yonkman will truly be missed.

    God Bless You All!
    Amanda
