Condolences to the Hammond family. Charles was one of many bosses within the Extension community. He always stressed
the importance of preparation and reading the landscape (political or otherwise). His wise words “Never go into a meeting that you haven’t already laid the groundwork to ensure its outcome before you go.” Eternal be your memory and rest.

Your family is in our prayers.
Soon after he hired me, Charles Hammond spoke to me words he would repeat. “Do what you say you’re going to do, and never promise something you can’t deliver.” I always found those words a helpful way of dealing with people honestly. And i think it was s way of life for Charles. He was an effective leader, ahelpful mentor, a respected pillar in his community. He believed in and helped build the Extension model of providing people the research-based resources they need to fulfill their goals.

Charles was my County Director when I joined CES. He was a wonderful role model for Extension programming, supervision, and working with communities and individuals in general. He was always supportive of the 4-H Program, my role as agent, and even my personal life. Charles, I know you’re listening, as you always have, so “thanks for all you did.” Alice sends hers, too!

Charles Hammond was indeed a fine, Christian man who wore many hats! We knew him through the Moore County Extension Office and also trough his Consultant Work for BAM, in the Sandhills Baptist Association. He was a friend to all and will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.
Our condolences go out to all the family but especially to his wife, Kathleen, and to the grandchildren he loved and who loved him dearly.
Charles was a friend and mentor to a fledgling farmer in the early ’80s and a recognized character around Carthage. He will be missed.

Charles was a big man–literally, figuratively and spiritually. God Bless you Charles on your journey Home.
Charles was my predecessor. When I took the job as Extension Director in Moore County, Charles soon walked in the office to congratulate me and offer his support. I’m glad I accepted his offer, because he was a true mentor, and gave honest caring advice. SInce his death, I have heard so many other stories from Extension agents from across the state about Charles’ generosity. Charles was stalwart and respected. His leadership and the examples he set will be missed, but I am sure, honored and remembered. I am glad he walk into the office that day, and I will always be grateful for his friendship.
