Clayton Harper, age 90 of Southern Pines, died Friday, December 3, 2021, at his home. 

A native of Morgan County, KY he was a son of the late Kelly and Lottie Ann Blair Harper. Clayton served in the US Army during the Korean War where he worked as a truck driver. After the military he worked for several years as a well driller and was a truck driver for Standard Trucking. 

He was preceded in death by his first wife Opal Ratliff Harper; infant daughter Barbara Ann Harper; five brothers and sisters. 

He is survived by his wife of 23 years Linda Munn Harper; sons David Harper of Myrtle Beach, Denzel Harper and wife Cathy of Aberdeen, Randy Harper and wife Rosie of Kentucky, Kenneth Harper and wife Bethany of Carthage; step-sons Walter Gordon and wife Lorie of Delaware; Bruce Gordon and wife Randa of Virginia Beach, VA; sisters Merlene Smith of Indiana, Shirley Stewart of Florida; brother Jimmy Harper of Indiana; many beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Sunday, December 5, 2021 at Deep Creek Baptist Church. Burial, with Military Honors, will follow at Beulah Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Deep Creek Baptist Church one hour before the service.

  1. Enjoyed seeing Clayton when he worked for Standard Trucking. I was the warehouse manager at Milliken Textiles in Robbins. Always friendly and kind. Praying for his family 🙏.

  2. We shall miss Uncle Clayton terribly, he was always such a fun loving and kind human being. He always liked to share stories of the things he had been working on, we loved spending time with him and Aunt Linda. Our precious memories of him and the happy times we shared shall forever remain with us. Love and prayers to Linda and all the family. Love you all

  3. Uncle Clayton was always so fun loving and visited a lot when I was little, played croquet and horseshoes with mom and dad! He always came to the Harper reunions in West Liberty Ky until he was no longer able to travel! Loved him so much, sending prayers to his 4 sons and his wife Linda and the rest of his family

  4. We are so sorry to hear about this just saw the obituary today December 6 we would of been to the services… Clayton is in alot of our memories with all the camping trips we used to go on. Your parents Lida Ann and your dad James Kelly were waiting right there for you to welcome you home as well as your 9 sisters that passed before for and so many many more. It will be a glad reunion day when we are all together again. My thoughts are with your dear wife Linda and your kids, grandkids and great grandkids. I am so glad we saw you in July.
