Doris W. Parker

Doris Ann Wallace Parker, 70, of Southern Pines passed away Sunday, November 17, 2013 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital. Doris Parker was born on February 21, 1943. She was the third daughter to Mallie Lester Wallace and Clara Cockman Wallace and was raised in Robbins, North Carolina.
Doris graduated salutatorian of Elise High School's Class of 1961. She was known for her intelligence, athletic ability, and work ethic. Doris lived her adult life in Southern Pines and held a number of jobs in local businesses. Many may remember her as partner and wife to Anthony E. 'Tony' Parker, the longtime former owner and manager of Parker Hardware & Supply Co. in Southern Pines and Moore County historian who died in 2010.
Doris is survived by her son, John Dempsey Parker (married to Easter Maynard) of Raleigh; three grandchildren, Lila Jeannette, James Dempsey, and Sawyer Davis Maynard Parker; three sisters, Jacqueline Wallace Spivey of Robbins, Chloe Wallace Chriscoe of Robbins, Patricia Wallace Jackson of Carthage; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.
Doris Parker loved family, flowers, books, and the beach. Her family remembers her high expectations, that she liked what she liked, said what she felt, and freely shared her opinion. Doris was highly valued by her co-workers. She was organized, spirited, and always dependable to anyone who needed her help. Doris Parker had a sensitive and tender heart.
Doris' family is holding a private memorial service and burial in Southern Pines, North Carolina.
