Dorothy Ward Brown, 97, died peacefully at her home in Southern Pines, North Carolina on Friday, November 21, 2014.

 

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, November 29, 2014, at Brownson Memorial Presbyterian Church, Southern Pines, North Carolina.

 

A long time resident of Moore County, Dot was an avid golfer and master bridge player. She loved gardening and her garden club of which she was a past president.

 

She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, William Lamont Brown, Sr., her parents, Rufus Nathan Ward and Bessie Ward and five siblings.

 

She is survived by one daughter, Elisabeth Boles and husband William (Buzzy) of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina; sons William Lamont Brown,Jr. and wife Inez of Plano, Texas, Dr. Ronald Lauchlin Brown and wife Susan of Charlotte, North Carolina, eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

 

She was a loving and loved mother and grandmother and devoted wife. She had many great friends, but she and her best friend in life, Nan Jackson, were inseparable.

 

Her family would like to acknowledge and thank the dedicated staff of Pine Knoll for their many years of loving and compassionate care.

 

Memorials may be made to St. Joseph's of the Pines, 590 Central Dr., Southern Pines, NC 28387.

 

Powell Funeral Home and Crematory of Southern Pines is assisting the family.
