Edith Ring Frye, age 92 of Carthage passed away Thursday, May 1, 2025 at her home. 

Born at home in Carthage on September 1, 1932, she was a daughter of the late W.S. “Sank” and Laura Peele Ring. 

Edith grew up on a tobacco farm where she learned the value of hard work. She graduated from Vass-Lakeview School where she was chosen to be Miss Vass-Lakeview her senior year. In 1954 she married Lacy Frye. Not wanting to continue farming Edith went to work at Quality Mills in Carthage where she made baby clothes. After retiring she helped out in the family’s health food store, Natures Own in Southern Pines and was a homemaker caring for grandchildren and other family. She was a member of Vass United Methodist Church. 

Edith was a fabulous cook and was known for her biscuits, pintos and potato salad. She enjoyed jigsaw and word search puzzles.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her infant son, Mitchell; her brother, Billy Ring, and son-in-law Eddie Hipp. 

She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Lacy Frye; her children Karen Frye, Teresa Hipp, Scott Frye and his wife Gina all from Carthage; grandchildren Callie, Anna, Heidi and Matthew; great grandchildren Lila, Harley, Emmett, Boston and one more expected next month, Nora. 

A graveside service will be 3:00 p.m. Sunday at Johnson Grove Cemetery.
