Ernest Gray Harris, age 82 of Carthage died Wednesday (April 17, 2013) at the FirstHealth Hospice House in Pinehurst.
Funeral Services will be 2:00 PM Saturday at Bethlehem Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. James Cagle and the Rev. Matthew Privett. Burial will follow with military honors in the church cemetery.
A native of Moore County he was a son of the late Thomas and Catherine McKenzie Harris. He was a US Army Veteran of the Korean War and a lifelong farmer. Ernest was active in Bethlehem Baptist Church where he has served the church in many capacities over the years including: Sunday School Superintendent and teacher, Board of Trustees, Chairman of the Deacons and choir leader.
He is survived by: his wife of 62 years Waddell Christian Harris; daughter Lisa Kruse and husband Richard of Pinehurst; sons Lynn Harris and wife Martha of Carthage, Don Harris of Carthage, Mark Harris and wife Robin of Charlotte, Scott Harris of Alexandria, VA, Doug Harris and wife Theresa of Carthage; sister Ann McRae of Clinton, TN; brothers Lloyd Harris of Aberdeen, Coy Harris of Alexandria, VA, Norman Harris of West End, Johnny Harris of Carthage; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at Fry and Prickett Funeral Home Friday from 6:00 - 8:00 PM and other times at the residence.

  8. We did not know Mr. Harris when we departed from our home to attend his services. Two hours later, we felt as if we knew him intimately, because of the warm eulogies delivered by his children and the very personal comments and observations from the pulpit
