Evelyn Joyce Walls Grooms, a family dedicated mother, grandmother, sister, wife and friend, passed away while surrounded by family at Moore Regional Hospital on Tuesday, January 25, 2022 at the age of 69. 

She was born in Baltimore, Maryland on April 2, 1952. 

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; her oldest daughter, Helen Geneva (Jeannie); her sister, Barbara Jolley of Raeford, NC; her brother Everette Ray of New Jersey; her grandson, Keith Levering; and young child, John Garland. 

She is survived by her husband, Tom Grooms of Robbins NC; her children, Loriann Grooms of Carthage NC, Betty Huff of Bridgeton NJ, John Grooms of Robbins NC, Michelle Harris of Robbins NC, and Barbie Stewart of Robbins NC; Her Siblings, Patricia Bruce of Tennessee. Fayetta Jean of Tennessee, Helen Smith of Maryland, and Samuel Walls of Tennessee. Along with many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews whom she lived her whole life for. 

Joyce was so loved by her entire family, as well as anyone who came in contact with her. She devoted her life to her children as a stay at home mom and her world revolved around her family. She will be remembered by her beautiful smile, loving personality, and her warm and giving heart. 

Joyce enjoyed being surrounded by loved ones, crafting, and giving or helping others. She was dedicated to the Lord and was involved in many church activities. She will be missed deeply by her family, friends, and all who knew her. 

The family would like to extend a special thank you to her dear friend and caregiver, Charity Steele, who shortly became family. She was the light of many of Joyce’s days, and we cannot thank her enough for her love and compassion.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM, Sunday, January 30, 2022 at Kennedy Funeral Home.  A service and burial will be held at a later date in Pittsgrove Township, NJ.

  5. I’ll never forget the fun times and memories we shared so many years ago. The laughter and the tears shared with Joyce and all of the family are forever cherished.
    I pray she now gets to turn the music 🎶 up loud in heaven and dance (like we used to in the living room at the farm of Garland & Bebe’s back in jersey.) I will always remember you this way, young happy healthy and beautiful! You will be missed. RIP

  6. You’re always be my big sister. You were a mother to me more than sister I will always love you for being there for me. The pain is horrible. I know you want me to be strong for you babies, I’m trying so hard. You will be missed forever. My boys are still grieving for their dad now you their young and reallly don’t understand how they will deal with their death’s but they will. In time never-ending pain but it get easier to deal with. Just gonna take time. We love you. Little sister TINY

  9. Joyce was a beautiful lady. We’re so thankful to God for letting us find her and Tom. We gained a big family that we’ve loved for many years. We will never forget how sweet and how much she loved her family and friends. Heaven is a little brighter now. So you fly high and shine on until we meet again. We love you beautiful angel!

  10. I’m so sorry to hear of Joyce’s passing. Our hearts go out to all of you. She was a beautiful lady inside and out. Many memories we have with her ,Tom and the family. My dearest sympathies and prayers are being sent. May her angel wings fly high above with the lord. We were truly blessed by her presence here on earth.
