Gladys “Lucy” Matthews Punchard, 96 passed away on September 8, 2017 at Quail Haven, Pinehurst, NC.
Funeral service will be held 2:30 PM, Thursday, September 14, 2017 at Powell Funeral Home Chapel, Southern Pines, NC, officiated by Reverend David Helms. Burial will follow in Pinelawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 1:00 PM.
Lucy was a native of Moore County and a graduate of Farmlife High School. She loved caring for her home and her family. She worked for many years in the restaurant business. Lucy was a member of the Southern Pines First Baptist Church. In her later years she enjoyed playing bingo with her friends at Quail Haven. Lucy was a daughter of the late Joshua and Pearl Weeks Matthews and was preceded in death by daughter: Jeanne Wahrenbrock.
Lucy is survived by son: Lawrence Bachman, of Carthage; daughter: Frances Pitts and husband Bill, of Bishop, Ga.; son in law: Gerald Wahrenbrock, of Independence Mo.; sister: Rheba Morrison, of Southern Pines; 11 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren.
