Jean Foster Hicks, 91, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at Quail Haven Retirement Village.

A native of Vance County, North Carolina, Jean was the daughter of the late William Waverly and Fraulien Wells Hicks. She was also preceded in death by her beloved brother, William E. “Buzz” Hicks.

Jean enjoyed a long and successful career with IBM, where she worked for over 30 years. Known for her professionalism, intelligence, and independence, Jean approached life with selflessness and strength. She had a sharp wit and a warm heart, qualities that endeared her to all who knew her.  In retirement, Jean remained active and engaged. She was an avid golfer and enjoyed many lively games of cards with friends. Her love of life, humor, and generous spirit will be deeply missed.

Jean is survived by her nieces, Kathy Sanford of Straits, NC, Mary Ellen Piland (Jim) of Ocracoke Island, Anne Ryder of Straits, and Mary Sue Faulkner of Southern Pines; nephews William E. “Bill” Hicks, II of Southern Pines and Tommy Faulkner (Betsy) of Pinehurst; and several beloved grand nieces and nephews.

A graveside memorial service will be held at the Southern Pines United Methodist Church Memorial Garden at 2:00 p.m., May 1, 2025, with Reverend John Michael McAllister and Pastor Elias Ballew officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Liberty Hospice at 300 W Pennsylvania Ave., Southern Pines, NC 28387.
