Johnnie Hoyt English

August 23, 1942 ~ March 28, 2022
Johnnie Hoyt English, 79, of Robbins passed away peacefully Monday, March 28, 2022 at his home, surrounded by family.
The family will receive family and friends from 6 to 8 PM, Thursday, March 31, 2022 at Kennedy Funeral Home in Robbins.
Graveside service will be held at 2 PM, Friday April 1, 2022 at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery, with the Reverend Sam Grist and Reverend William Saunders officiating.
Johnnie, a native of Moore County, served in various roles throughout the years including Robbins Chief of Police, Sheriff’s Deputy, and Bailiff. He retired in 2013 after 43 years of Service. Johnnie cherished his time in law enforcement and established lifelong friendships throughout that journey. Though he cherished his work, he loved his family even more. Johnnie was a loving husband to his wife Dorothy Purvis English for 61 years, father to Patsy and David, and the best grandpa to Holly and Travis. His best and proudest moments were the ones spent with loved ones. He enjoyed fishing, spending days on the boat, traveling to flea markets to find “treasures”, and was always tinkering on something in his shop. He was always on the go, and you’d never know where you would end up when he said, “let’s go ride around”.
Johnnie was preceded in death by his son: David English; Son in law: Reggie Wilson; Father: George English; Mother: Alma Bristow; Sisters: Sheila and Maggie; Brothers: Little George, Homer, Don, James, Junior, Eugene and Billy Ray.
Johnnie is survived by his wife: Dorothy Purvis English; Daughter: Patsy Wilson; Grandchildren: Travis English, Holly Scott and husband Tyler; Mother of Grandchildren: Angie English; Brother: Roger Bristow and wife Anna; Sisters in law: Wilma English, Betty Lou Purvis and Treva Purvis; and many nieces, nephews and extended family.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund and First Health Hospice Foundation of Pinehurst.
Kennedy Funeral Home is assisting the English family.

I am sorry to hear this news . In 1986 when my brother died Johnnie let me cry a lot on his shoulder and tried to answer my questions he was a good friend of my daddy’s. He helped me learn to deal with a lot . At 19 that means a lot. Heaven has gained another great soul . Our prayers are with the family

Mrs.Dot,Patsy , Roger and family, Kim and I are so grieved for you all in your loss of Mr. English ,my friend. A family man with room in his heart for others and their well-being. He always had a word of encouragement for all he met. A great law enforcement officer who always looked for a way to help anyone he might have to arrest. I am especially appreciative of the encouragement he and Dot gave me every time we met. That will always be in my heart.. A great man who will be greatly missed. May God cradle you all in His loving arms in your grief and in the days to come.. We love you.Bruce and Kim Williams
