Langdon Dowd "L.D." Caddell Jr.

August 19, 1951 ~ April 17, 2025

Langdon Caddell Jr. “L.D.”, 73, passed away on Thursday, April 17, 2025 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

Born on August 19, 1951 in Moore County, he was a son of the late Langdon Caddell Sr. and Ruby Stancil Caddell.

L.D. enjoyed watching and playing golf, taking multiple golf trips with his son and friends. He loved watching NASCAR and went to races every chance he could. He was an avid Carolina Tarheel basketball fan. He loved working in the yard and sitting in the “fort” out back when he finished.

He worked for the NCDOT Right of Way department, retiring after 33 years of service. In 2007, he was a recipient of The Order of the Long Leaf Pine award.

Above all his hobbies and accomplishments, he would say his greatest achievement was being called “Papa”. His intimidating personality melted when his girls walked into the room. He was a great man that loved the Lord and his family, and he will be greatly missed.

In addition to his parents, L.D. was preceded in death by his wife: Gloria Christine Caddell “Chris”; and sister: Mamie Geraldine Caddell “Gerri”.

L.D. is survived by his son: Langdon Caddell III “Trey” and wife Raven; granddaughters: Taylor, Jordan, and Kenly; and sister: Cathy Brown (Bill).

A graveside service will be held on Monday, April 21, 2025 at 2 pm at the Caddell Family Cemetery in Hoffman with Pastor Bill Maness officiating.

LD married my first cousin Christine.My husband and I introduced them on a blind date. Loved them alot. Will be missed by family.

I was fortunate enough to meet LD through work many years ago and was proud to call him a friend in the office and away from work. I am keeping the family in my thoughts and prayers as they are some of the best people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting and spending time with over the years.

I always enjoyed being around LD, be it has a coworker or a friend away from work. He left me with many fond memories. So sorry to see him gone. Praying for his family and friends.

I remember how he’d make us all laugh at the annual Right of Way golf tournaments or the statewide meetings. We always had good times at those get togethers. Will be keeping Trey and the whole family in my thoughts and prayers.

LD was always ready to share a laugh. He was a part of the Golden Age of Right of Way, and my dad thought a lot of him too. So sorry for your loss. Sending prayers for comfort and peace to your family.
