Leona Bullard Patterson, age 73 of Carthage died early Saturday morning (August 3, 2013) at Duke Raleigh Hospital.
Funeral services will be 4:00 PM Monday at First Presbyterian Church in Carthage conducted by the Reverend Rick Martindale and the Reverend David Yarbarough. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Born August 21, 1939 in Harnett County, she was a daughter of the late James H. and Myrtie Holder Bullard. Leona graduated from East Carolina University and was a retired school teacher for Moore County Schools.
Leona was a friend to many. She had an impeccable memory and was able to remember her students and friends that she met over the years. She was a caring, thoughtful and compassionate person, remembering peoples birthday, anniversaries and other life events. She enjoyed sending cards, writing poems and talking to friends and family. Whenever there was a need in the community Leona was the first to respond.
She was preceded in death by her brother James 'Buddy' Bullard.
Leona is survived by her husband of 49 years Otis R. Patterson; daughter Rayona P. Cash and husband Charles of Carthage; son John Patterson and wife Georgia Lee Hamilton Patterson of Lillington; grandchildren Carissa and Zac Cash and Leah Grace Patterson.
The family will receive friends at First Presbyterian Church, fellowship hall on Sunday from 5:00 - 8:00 PM and other times at the home.
