Maida Teresa Dunlap, 63, passed away on August 15, 2025, at the FirstHealth Hospice House, Pinehurst, NC.

Teresa grew up in Robbins, NC, and settled nearby in Seagrove, NC. She loved her family with all her heart and would do anything for her two boys. Teresa was extremely kind and never met a stranger. She had the gift of comforting those around her and always made it a point to let everyone know that she loved them. Teresa enjoyed going to New York City in the summers, family cookouts, all of her pets, and playing pranks on family and friends. Teresa worked for over 27 years in the school system, with the majority of those years spent at Westmoore Elementary as a teacher’s assistant. She loved all the kids there and built lifelong friends that she deeply cherished. She was a devoted Christian and attended Elise Presbyterian Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James B. McDermott II and LeVanne Burns McDermott, as well as her brother, James B. McDermott III, and nephew, Jeremiah McDermott.

Teresa, a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, is survived by her husband, Ricky Dunlap; her sons, Myles Dunlap (wife Laura and their son Ezra) and Trevor Dunlap. She is also survived by her nephew, James B. McDermott IV (wife Connie, daughters June and Alya), and her nieces, Jodi Parsons (husband Isaac, children Reid, Lance, and Vanna) and Megan Adams.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM, Wednesday, August 20, 2025 at Kennedy Funeral Home, Robbins.

In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to FirstHealth Hospice House, the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, or Elise Presbyterian Church.

  16. I have known Teresa since she was in the fifth grade at Elise, having worked with her mother for seventeen years at the Town of Robbins City Hall. She became a part of my family having seen her practically everyday. From the time she was a child to becoming an adult, she always had that beautiful smile and personality, always willing to do what she could to help someone. As we went out our separate ways, she never failed to speak when she saw me. Several months ago when I saw her at the Chicken Hut, she wanted me to come and sit with her. We had a good conversation and the last thing she said to me was that she was going to be a grandma and that she loved me. She loved her family dearly.

  17. I just can’t wrap my head around this heartbreaking news. Teresa was just the best, an angel on earth. Prayers for the family ❤️

  29. Ricky, Myles, Trevor, and all family,
What a loss to the earthly world. Teresa was so kind, so upbeat, and so interested in everything — giving the love she had to all her family and to anyone who came in contact with her. I will remember her smile and her laugh forever. I was glad to have seen her not too long ago. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

  30. To Ricky, Myles, & Trevor… My condolences to you and thank you for sharing Teresa with the Westmoore Family. I was one of Teresa’s Co-Worker’s. When I met Teresa it was like we had know each other for a long time. She was always one of the most caring people that I have known. If she could help you in any way she would do just that. The men in her life were her jewels and I enjoyed so much hearing the stories about Myles & Trevor. I loved to hear about her trips to New York and she would come back with some hilarious stories that made you feel like you were right with her, and she would always say you ought to come and go with me. I wish that I could have made that trip. Her sense of humor was spot-on… and I was one of those people that fell into her trap each time because everything she said was so believable. I did not get a chance to see her while she was on her journey, but I would always ask Rhonda about her. I know that you will miss her dearly, but she is now sitting at the feet of Jesus with no pain, and no suffering.

I will keep you in prayer and know that only time can heal the sorrow that the passing of a loved one leaves with us. Blessings to you and your family.

Just remember you will always have your mama watching over!

  32. Teresa was a classmate of mine from the 1980 graduating class at NMHS and our Homecoming Queen. Such a beautiful person inside and out. Always a sweet and kind person. Prayers for her family!! Hold on to all your beautiful memories!!
