Mary Dowdy Johnson

Mary Dowdy Johnson, age 90, passed away on Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at FirstHealth Hospice House in Pinehurst, NC. 

Mary was born on January 8, 1932, in Moore County, NC and was the baby girl of nine siblings to the late Joe Thomas and Lula Clegg Dowdy. She grew up as a member of Stony Hill Baptist Church.

She graduated from Pickney School and then moved to Washington, DC. Mary retired after 30 years of working as Jury Selector for the U.S. District Courts. 

Mary was preceded in death by her husband: John Henry Johnson; daughter: Mary Henryetta Johnson and son: James Freddie Johnson. 

Mary is survived by her four grandchildren: Carlos Johnson (Carla) of Aberdeen, Tykeish Johnson, Nyeisha Johnson and Karen Johnson, all of Baltimore, MD; three step grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; one step great grandchild; and three great great grandchildren and other family and friends. 

A funeral service will be held on Saturday April 16, 2022 1 pm at Stony Hill Baptist Church. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the start of the service. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Free Will Church. Masks are optional for those attending the service.
