Nancy Stoner Jackson, 91 , of Southern Pines, NC passed away on July 1, 2016 at St Joseph of the Pines in Southern Pines, NC.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on July 16, 2016 at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Southern Pines, NC. A private burial is planned.
Nan was born in Newport News, VA and spent her early years in diverse locations, such as Hawaii and Panama, while her father served in the U.S. Air Force. She was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, with a major in Spanish and Portuguese. A year after her college graduation, Nan married Nolley Jackson and moved to Southern Pines, which would be her home for the rest of her life. Throughout her years in town, she and her beloved friend Dot Brown undertook many adventures together and remained devoted to one another until the end of Dot’s life.
During her years in Southern Pines, Nan contributed to the community through her volunteer service with Emmanuel Episcopal Church and the Southern Pines Garden Club. Although not initially a career woman, she became one of the few female owners of a Ford dealership when she served as President of Jackson Motors. She found satisfaction through her later work as a legal assistant, first with Brown, Holshouser and Pate and then with Robbins, May and Rich. In her last few years, Nan enjoyed the many activities and friendships she made at St. Josephs of the Pines. . The family wishes to thank the staff of the Pines House, St. Josephs of the Pines – especially Tina, Sunshine and Lisa - for their loving care over the past 2 1/2 years.
Predeceased by her parents Rex and Sara Stoner, husband E. Nolley Jackson, and beloved friend Dorothy Brown, she is survived by one daughter, Margaret Jackson of Raleigh, NC; niece Karla McPherson of Chapel Hill, NC; cousins Susan Williams of Fayetteville, NC, LaMar Williams of Fayetteville, Nan Wilson of Charlotte, NC, and Margaret Thomas of Mt. Pleasant, SC; as well as Elisabeth Brown Boles of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Dr. Ronald Brown of Charlotte, NC and Robert Jackson.
