Nellie Blue Greene

Nellie Blue Greene, born September 5, 1918, a lifelong resident of the Farm Life-Eureka Community, died October 5, 2012 after a brief period of declining health.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, October 9, 2012 at Eureka Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Ed Boyce officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years Paul C. Greene in 2011.
Nellie was the last surviving child of Arpus Lewis and Annabelle McCaskill Blue of the Eureka Community.
She was proud of her Scottish Heritage and the close ties that she shared with other family members in the celebration of her ancestry through participation in the Sept of Blue and other activities.
Nellie was a graduate of Farm Life School, and later in life returned to Sandhills Community College to complete her nursing degree. She worked for many years as an RN at Moore Regional Hospital. After retirement, she continued to volunteer as a tutor at Farm Life, a Hospice Nurse, and Health Nurse at the Senior Center. She was skilled in many areas of homemaking skills from her generation, and enjoyed passing her knowledge to others.
She is survived by her sons Ron, and wife, Phyllis of Chapel Hill; Don and wife, Penny of Charlotte; and Bob and wife, Deb of Chapel Hill.
Grandchildren are Sarah Greene and husband, Ian Cundiff; Martha and husband, Zach Goodyear; Katie Greene and Paul Greene. Great Grandchildren are Caroline Goodyear and Vance Cundiff.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 pm on Monday at Fry & Prickett Funeral Home in Carthage.
