Phyllis Julia Cauley, 89 died Saturday April 9, 2016 at St. Joseph’s of the Pines in Southern Pines NC.

 

A funeral service and burial will take place at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.

 

She was born in Albany New York to Guilford and Julia Howard.

 

Phyllis was a devoted and loving wife, and mother of 10 children.  As an Army officer's wife, she traveled the world with her husband John and children.  She did this with style and grace, being a strong woman of faith.  She had a keen sense of humor and the tenacity to always carry on as needed. She was also very active in her church and as community volunteer.  Phyllis loved life and enjoyed dancing with her husband, golfing, sewing, and cooking large, festive meals for her ever-growing family. Her family members loved her dearly.   

 

Predeceased by her husband of 64 years Lt. Col. (Ret) John Joseph Cauley, Jr. and her parents, she is survived by six daughters, Kathy Currier and husband Bill of Ft. Myers, FL, Mary Bryant and husband Bob of Bedford, VA, Judi Ritz of Southern Pines, Theresa Brower and husband David of Canton, GA, Liz Landreth and husband Rick of Southern Pines, and Debbie Stein and husband Bob of Boston, MA, four sons, Greg Cauley of W Yarmouth, MA, Pat Cauley of Winthrop, MA, Danny Cauley and wife Patti of North Haven, CT, and Tim Cauley and Melissa of Bonita Springs Fla., 21 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren and her brother Bill Howard of Delmar, NY, and her sister-in-law Ann Cauley of Southern Pines NC.
