Richard Daryl Yost

Richard Daryl “Yogi” Yost, 56, of Carthage, passed away on Saturday, April 5, 2025.

A native of Moore County, Daryl, was the son of Richard Harold and Helen Bobbitt Yost.  Known to many simply as “Yogi,” Richard lived a life full of love, generosity, and simple joys. He was a kind-hearted soul with a deep appreciation for nature, family, and faith. His legacy is one of selflessness, laughter, and the kind of steady presence that made everyone feel at home.  Yogi found his greatest joy in being a grandpa to his beloved granddaughter, Nova. He cherished every moment they shared, and his face would light up whenever he spoke of her.  A true outdoorsman, Yogi could often be found bass fishing at local farm ponds or enjoying late-night catfishing at Blewett Falls. He loved the thrill of deer and turkey hunting, the quiet joy of searching for arrowheads, and the satisfaction of growing pumpkins in his garden. His creativity showed in his handmade bamboo planter boxes, a small testament to his craftsmanship and love for the earth.  He had a deep love for music and a soft spot for classic westerns, often kicking back to enjoy a good tune or a timeless cowboy tale. He enjoyed chasing storms and spending meaningful time with his daughter, sharing adventures and quiet conversations alike.

Daryl was the kind of man who would give you the shirt off his back—generous, genuine, and always ready to help. He lived simply but with great purpose, and above all, he wanted to make sure that his family and friends would come to know Jesus.

In addition to his parents, Daryl is survived by his beloved daughter, Mica Dexter (Samuel) of Raeford; brother, Gerald Yost of Carthage; his precious granddaughter, Nova; uncle, Oscar Bobbitt (Joyce) of Southern Pines; and nephew, Derick Yost of Carthage.

A Celebration of Life in honor of Daryl’s life will be on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at 1100 a.m. at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, 2237 Camp Easter Road, Southern Pines, NC 28387, with Pastor Gregg Newton officiating.
