Richard E. “Dick” Loew , 93, of Pinehurst died October 12, 2014 at FirstHealth of the Carolinas in Pinehurst , NC.

 

A memorial service will be 11:00 AM Saturday, October 25th at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Southern Pines. A reception will follow at the Belle Meade Club House. Burial will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery in Skokie, IL. 

 

Dick was born to Ethel Austin Loew and Raymond Loew on December 3, 1920. He received his B.S. in Art Education from the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, went to Columbia University to receive his U.S. Navy commission of Lt. JG.  He served in the North Sea and then two years in the Pacific, later as commanding officer of a U.S.P.C. during WWII. He later returned to work as a graphic designer in the advertising industry. He owned and operated, Dick Loew and Associates in Chicago for many years.  Art was his passion, and he had the recognition of having work displayed in the Chicago Art Institute and the North Carolina Museum of Art in Raleigh, NC.

 

He retired to Pinehurst in 1984 where he enjoyed tennis, sailing and croquet.  He played in croquet tournaments as distant as New Zealand and Australia.  His travels took him to five continents.

 

He was predeceased by his parents, Raymond and Ethel Loew, and his brothers Jack and Clifford.

 

Surviving are his wife of 38 years, Nancy Loew, of the home; two sons, Douglas Mark Loew (Lisa) of Chicago, IL and David Paul Loew of China; a daughter, Laurie Jean Mehegan (Mark) of Colorado Springs, CO; and Nancy’s daughter, Lynn Scott White (Michael) of Woodstock, IL.  He is also survived by seven grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.
