Pastor Robert Lee Kidd, age 87, passed away peacefully at the FirstHealth Hospice House in Pinehurst following a brief illness. 

Born on December 21, 1937, in Durham, North Carolina, to the late Hugh Allen Kidd and Virginia Phillips Kidd,

He was a graduate of John Wesley College in Greensboro and received his Masters Degree from Andersonville Theological Seminary, Camilla, Georgia.   Robert began pastoring in 1973. He was Recorded (Ordained) into the Friends Church in 1976, and devoted over 50 years of his life to ministry as a beloved pastor. He leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, and dedicated service.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 68 years, Juanita Purvis Kidd, who stood faithfully by his side throughout their journey together. Robert is also survived by his daughter, Beverly Rhodes Phillips, and her husband, Dean, of Bear Creek; his granddaughter, Dr. Rebekah Rhodes, and her husband, Dr. Craig Jensen of Davis, California, and he always cherished the company of his favorite cat, Missy.

Robert’s life was a testament to his faith and his commitment to serving others. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, December 14, 2025 at Beulah Baptist Church in Bennett, North Carolina. 

The family will receive friends at Kennedy Funeral Home on Saturday, December 13, 2025 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., and at other times at the home.

I know heaven is rejoicing for his work here is done and he’s with our Lord. My prayers are for God to wrap his arms around Juanita and Beverly during this difficult time. We love you all!

  9. Pastor Kidd was a great man and a wonderful preacher. I’ll never forget his sermons growing up. He was a very enthusiastic and passionate preacher. I appreciate all he did for my family. He was a big part of my walk with God and deepened my Faith as a young man and into my later years. I will miss him greatly and know he is with Jesus in Glory.

  10. Everyone who came to know him loved Rev. Robert Lee Kidd. To say he will be missed is such an understatement. He was a go to person. He was kind, soft spoken, and caring man who folks knew they could trust. His services were always a blessing to those in the audience. Yes, we will miss him, but we have every confidence that he is rejoicing in the presence of the Lord and loved ones gone on. Well done, Rev. Robert Lee Kidd.

  11. Preacher Kidd a couple of revivals for me at High Falls Wesleyan Church. His setmone, smiles, and personality would light up any ones life. It was there he nicknamed me “”SHORTY”, although I’m a head taller than hi. I will say to everyone, HE’S MORE ALIVE NOW THAN HE EVER WAS AS. Preacher Kidd, till we meet again in heaven. Prayers for the family.
