Virginia Margret Henson Laney, 104, passed away Friday, May 16, 2025 at Pinehurst Health and Rehabilitation.

Virginia was a daughter of the late Walter and Dora Williams Henson, born March 29, 1921 in High Point , North Carolina.  She was a graduate of Elise High School.  She met her future husband, Arthur Laney after he came to Robbins to play semi-pro baseball.  They both worked in textiles and she retired from Carthage Fabric.  Virginia was a loving  daughter, wife, mother and grandmother.  She will be remembered for her home cooked meals, gardening skills and “Front porch sitting” with family and friends.   Virginia was a faithful member of Mt Carmel Church, where she played the piano and sang for many years.  She loved to read and was a fan of crossword puzzles, even the New York Times.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Arthur Preston ”Press:” Laney, daughter: Linda Carol Laney.

Virginia is survived by grandson: Mitchell Shearer (Karen);  great grandchildren Justin, Jennie, Linda, Preston; other extended family and church family.

Graveside service will be 11 AM, Tuesday, May 20, 2025 at Mt Carmel Church Cemetery, with Pastor William Saunders officiating.  The family will receive friends following the service.

Memorial may be made to Mt Carmel Church 3925 Mt Carmel Road, Carthage, NC 28327.

    Kim and I are grieved for you all in your loss of Virginia. She and Press were such kind and loving people. They were always so kind and concerned about my dad, Harold Addison Williams.   2. I just found out about Virginia’s passing. She and my late mother were friends and my mom was always talking about talking and visiting with Virginia. My mom also played the piano at church so they had a lot in common. Sending prayers for the family. Virginia was a fine person.
