Resided in: Pinehurst, North Carolina

Yvonne Hunter Gale passed away peacefully in her home on Monday, April 21, 2025. She was born in Sanford, NC, on December 11, 1950, to Jack Hunter and Wilma Holt Hunter.

Yvonne was a graduate of Stedman High School and the University of North Carolina, Greensboro, where she majored in English. She taught in Cumberland County Schools for over 30 years. Many of her students speak fondly of her and of the impact she made on their lives. She taught them life lessons as well as academics.

Upon her retirement, she and her husband, Don, moved to Pinehurst, where she became an active member of The Village Chapel and worked tirelessly as a volunteer for many charitable organizations. She especially spent years of energy and devoted service to the Sandhills Woman’s Exchange.

Yvonne loved her pets, reading, traveling, working in her yard, and spending time with friends and family. She had a phenomenal group of friends with whom she shared much love and great adventures. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family and spoiling her grandsons.

Yvonne was preceded in death by her parents and her loving husband, Donald Gale. She is survived by her son, Kenneth Gale (partner Kasie Krick), grandsons Christian and Nicholas Gale, brother, Mike Hunter (wife Sue), and many special nieces and nephews.

Yvonne was loved immensely and will be dearly missed.

A service to celebrate the life of Yvonne Gale will be held at a later date.

Guestbook

  1. You remain in my heart and memory, cherished friend. May the Good Shepherd guide you now.
    Love, Helen

  2. To the entire family, I send my most sincere condolences. I enjoyed working with Yvonne over the past 8 plus years. She was a very interesting and bright individual. She always asked me how my family was doing and “where is your nest trip”? I will miss our meetings and I know each of you will miss her dearly. May God bless each of you and comfort you through this loss.

  3. Yvonne, I will always cherish the wonderful memories of being with you at the Sandhills Woman’s Exchange where you dedicated so much of your time and resources. Seeing your excitement and glee when you learned of the monthly earnings from the sale of 499s due to your abiding efforts, was always a highlight of Board meetings.
    Rest in peace, dear friend.

  4. Yvonne…the world was better for your being with us…And much too dark for your leaving.
I will missyou sweet, sweet lady.

  5. Auntie Yvonne (Yovonne) you are missed so much already! I will always remember the great visits and phone calls we have had through the years. You were more than just a wonderful Aunt, a lot of people do not realize how you and Uncle Don saved my life when you took me in for the summer, when I was turning 16. You both meant the world to me then and always. I hope your journey to your loved ones was peaceful. Thank you for always being you, with love and hugs

  6. I had Mrs. Gale for a teacher at E. E. Smith High school many years ago. I had two favorite teachers at that school and Mrs. Gale was one of them. I have such pleasant memories from my time spent with her and have thought of her often over the years. My sincere condolences to her son, her family and her many friends. She was a very talented lady.

  7. Yvonne, you are missed deeply. I enjoyed our working together at the “Cabin”. Your tireless work with the 499’s is a lasting tribute to your dedication. My sincere condolences go out to your entire family who are missing the treasure you were.

  8. “If We Would Have Roses”
He who would have beautiful roses
In his garden must have beautiful roses in his heart
He must love them well and always.
He must love not only the glowing admiration,
The enthusiasm, and passion, but the
    tenderness, the thoughtfulness, the reverence
    the watchfulness of love.
    S.R. Hole

  9. Sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Yvonne Hunter Gale. I was ‘the other Yvonne’ in her high school class. She was an honor roll student, kind, shy, neat, helpful, and a special friend to me. She loved and was quite proud of her family. Yvonne was voted “Most Dependable” by the Senior class and lived up to this title throughout her life. She will truly be missed.

Yvonne Warren Wheeler, Stedman High School, Class of 1969, Go Rams!
