Resided in: Pinehurst, North Carolina

Alan K. Barrick (Al), Unforgettable husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away on January 19, 2025, at the age of 88.  He leaves behind a legacy of integrity, determination, and faith.

Born on July 3, 1936, in Halifax, Pennsylvania, he was the only child of Helen and Floyd Barrick.  Because he spent much time out-of-doors as a child, his love of all things in nature was developed at a young age.  He hunted, gardened, was an Eagle Scout and majored in biology at Elizabethtown College, where he met his devoted wife of 66 years, Frances Hoover Barrick.  After dental school, the couple traveled the country as Al served as a dentist in the Air Force.  With their three children, they eventually settled back in central Pennsylvania.

Al was a great provider for his family and a supportive and sometimes coach of his children’s pursuits, whether academic or athletic.  He also continued his beloved hobby of big game hunting that started in Alaska, with yearly trips West.  In addition, he loved hunting at his various cabins in northern Pennsylvania and traveling to various places in and out of the country.  Golf became his passion when he and Fran retired to Pinehurst.  Surrounding his vibrant life was his faith in Jesus and his love of his country.

Al is survived by his beloved wife, Fran; children, Jan, John (Gina), and Andy (Linda), seven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

  4. Aunt Fran, so sorry to hear of Uncle Al’s passing. He was a good and faithful man-a living example for his children. He has claimed the promise we all received at our baptism and joins the saints who have gone before. Prayers for comfort to all who mourn Uncle Al.

  5. Fran and Family – Pat and I will always remember our dear friendship with you and Al. He will be remembered as a stout Christian with a devout love of family and country. I was very glad that Al and I connected via phone a short time ago. The Lord will be with you and your family and you have our sincere condolences.
