Allen Locklin Monroe, 84,  went home to be with the Lord Thursday, March 19, 2020.

 

Because of our world situation a private Graveside Service will be held.  A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date.

 

Allen was born in Spies, NC to Allen and Nora Monroe.  He was the youngest of eight siblings that grew up together in Robbins, NC. He served his country in the United States Navy for 4 years. After serving in the military he attended Oklahoma City University, while working 2 jobs to take care of his family. He sold supermarket equipment, designed supermarkets and shopping centers, which led to doing the decor and eventually becoming a full time job in home improvement.

 

Allen loved being together with his family and his church family, at Needhams Grove Baptist Church.  He loved his Carolina Tarheels. Allen just loved and enjoyed life and is now rejoicing with his Savior.

  

Allen is survived by wife: Nita Monroe; daughter: Donna Gragg and husband Steve;;son: Mark Monroe and wife Rosanne; grandchildren, whom he adored: Melanie Greene and husband Shawn, Cliff Gragg and wife Kristin, Matthew Monroe and wife Lindsey, Macon Monroe and wife Sherry, Kayla Monroe; great grandchildren: Vandie, Andon, Harmony, Autumn, Owen, Harper, Cora; sister: Betty Meeks;  many nieces, nephews and friends.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Needhams Grove Baptist Church Building Fund, 359 Needham Grove Road, Seagrove, NC 27324

  9. Uncle A.L. was such a happy guy everytime I’d see him at family gatherings. He and my grandma (Peggy) were pretty close as brother and sister. He always greeted me with a hug and a “Hey girl!!” I loved hearing stories about all the Monroe siblings growing up from him, and his laugh. I know Grandma, Eula, Gilbert, Norman, and the rest of the gang welcomed him up with hugs and laughter. He was a loved uncle and will be missed greatly. 💜Amber

  17. Nita, Donna and Mark. Allen was one of my senior saints and I will miss his funny, jovial ways. He was always willing to be a part of any game. What a trooper he was when we rolled him in toilet paper. He loved playing Bingo. My heart is sad, I’m going to miss him at senior saints, but also his smiling face when i came down from choir. He will be missed, I pray for each of you in the days ahead . We delight in knowing we shall see him again. Love and prayers.

  19. I will miss Allen so much, he was the best uncle anyone could ever have. He was so funny, smart and caring. I always found it hard to leave his house, we just kept finding more and more to talk about, more stories. He had the best stories. He taught me what a real father was supposed to be and I always admired him for that. I am so proud to be part of such an awesome and amazing family. I’m sure all the Monroes are celebrating with our Lord and Savior. Love you and miss you forever.

  20. What a wonderful Christian man! Years ago when they lived in Oklahoma City, my late husband, Wyman Straughan, and I were dear friends of he and Nita.
    He and Wyman are probably up there in heaven getting in trouble!
    So wonderful to know where they are.
